A backwater cruise for two: booking the 1 BHK for a couple

The Premium 1 BHK is our smallest boat and the right one for two people. There is no honeymoon package to buy — the whole boat, its bedroom and its crew are yours for the night, which is really the point. Flowers in the cabin, a cake or a candlelit dinner can be added when you book if you want them, but nothing is needed.

What actually makes it

• The quiet. Once the boat moors for the night you have the water to yourselves. That, more than anything, is what people remember.
• The morning. The best light of the trip is on the deck between about 6:15 and 7:00 AM, before the lake wakes up. Be up for it.
• The lunch. The karimeen fry and the full Kerala spread are cooked fresh on board — the same meal on every boat, and better than most backwater restaurants.

Worth asking the desk

• Tell us it is a special occasion when you book and we will do what we can.
• The chef will cook a lighter, less chilli-forward menu on request — say so at booking, not at dinner.
• The bedroom AC runs 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM; it takes about twenty minutes to cool the cabin after you board, so it is worth asking the crew to start it early.
